Live Social Media Assistant

Live Social Media Assistants document the festival throughout Aug. 25-28 with their personal Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and/or Youtube accounts and linking to the festival’s social media channels. LSM Assistants should be comfortable approaching festival patrons to record authentic and consented social media content, taking various types of photographs to ensure broad and accurate portrayal of the festival and our mandate, and editing photos and short videos. Live Social Media Assistants need to own smart-phone with 3G data, and are responsible for any overage costs.

Location: On-site (Brewer Park).

Time commitment: Minimum of one 6 hour shift.

Setup/Teardown

Set up/tear down of the main event. Moving stuff, heavy lifting, setting up tents and tables, cleaning up trash and putting up signs. Volunteers must have steel-toed boots for safety. Volunteers must also be willing and able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and to stand, bend, and lift throughout the shift. For people who like to get their hands dirty!

Location: On-site (Brewer Park).

Time Commitment: Mostly the day before and after the main event.

Security

Location: On-site (Brewer Park).

Time Commitment: Mostly the day of the event.

Keeping eyes and ears open for trouble and diplomatically and gently diffusing any situations *before* they escalate into a problem. Bouncer types are welcome, but not required, and we definitely need both guys and girls on the team too!

Entrance greeter

Location: On-site (Brewer Park).

Time Commitment: Mostly day of the event.

Beer Tent Greeter

Time commitment: Mostly the day of the event

Friendly faces who can serve as greeters for the many people who will be coming into the Beer Tent.

Seeds Tent Greeter

Time Commitment: Mostly the day of the event.

Friendly faces who can serve as greeters for the many people who will be coming to enjoy the workshops. May also involve helping with the artist market and supporting the workshops area.

Arts Market Greeter/Assistant

Time Commitment: Mostly the day of the event.

Friendly faces who can serve as greeters for the vendors who will be coming to display and sell their art. This position consists of placing art vendors at their designated tables and of assisting with setup and tear down, if necessary. May also involve supporting the workshops area.

Merchandise Tent Assistant

Time Commitment: Mostly the day of the event.

Registration Desk/Assistant

Time Commitment: Mostly the day of the event.

Friendly faces who can serve as greeters for the dancers who will register for the dance competition.

Floater

Time Commitment: Mostly the day of the event.

Admin Assistant

Time commitment: mostly the weeks leading up to the event.

Taking care of logistics, administration, registrations, doing research (price shopping, evaluation support), putting together kits and other things that are perfect tasks for super organized people.

Promotions

Time Commitment: Mostly in the days/weeks before the main event.

Postering, flyering, chatting with people on the street, posting news online and generally hyping up everything that is related to House of PainT.

Merchandise Coordinator

Time commitment: Mostly during the festival.

Merchandise Coordinator volunteer would be responsible for the inventory control of the Merchandise Tent during the Festival. This position involves making sure the Merchandise Tent has an appropriate level of inventory, coordinating volunteers assigned to the Merchandise Tent, setting up merchandise display, and coordinating logistics.

Beer Tent Assistant

Time commitment: Mostly during the Festival.

Friendly faces who are Smart Serve certified who have experience working with alcohol. The volunteer will be responsible pouring wine for our guests in the Beer Tent and may assist our beer sponsor.

Skills: Smart Serve certified (must have Smart Serve card on hand to be valid), verbal communication, interpersonal abilities, ability to listen and follow direction, flexibility, adaptability, multicultural sensitivity/awareness, responsibility/reliability, and friendly.

Hospitality Assistant (Backstage Assistant)

Time commitment: Mostly during the festival.

Friendly faces who will be greeting and assisting the artists in the green room. This may involve receiving artists, answering questions, and running errands.

Stage Support

Time commitment: Mostly during the festival.

Friendly faces who have experience and interest in audio and visual. This involves assisting the stage crew.

Skills: Some knowledge of audio and visual, verbal communications, interpersonal abilities, ability to listen and follow directions, flexibility, adaptability, multicultural sensitivity/awareness, responsibility/reliability, and friendly.

Social Media Outreach Assistant

Social Media Outreach Assistants aid with the social media and outreach efforts of the festival in July, August and September 2016. Responsibilities include writing drafts of social media posts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), and/or taking and editing photos and short videos.

Location: Mostly remote (from home); and occasionally at the House of PainT office for meetings.

Time commitment: 5-10 hours per week, for a minimum of two weeks, before and during the festival.

Skills: writing skills, basic word processing and spreadsheets, design experience, verbal communication, interpersonal abilities, ability to learn and follow direction, flexibility, adaptability, multicultural sensitivity/awareness, responsibility/reliability and friendly

Writers

Writers will be responsible for writing and sourcing content for blogs, editorial and feature stories, event listings, social media, and more communications outlets.

Location: Mostly remote (from home); occasionally at the House of PainT office for meetings.

Time Commitment: Minimum 5-10 hours before and during the festival.

Skills: Excellent written and spoken English (French is an asset), experience with social media platforms, experience with Microsoft Office, and experience writing blogs and drafting stories, demonstrated creativity and editing skills, interpersonal abilities, ability to listen and follow direction, flexibility, adaptability, multicultural sensitivity/awareness, responsibility/reliability, friendly

Publicists

Publicists will contribute to the media and public relations aspects of the festival, including drafting press kits, creating press materials, and drafting story pitches to a variety of publications and journalists. Publicists who have a background and/or interest in public relations are encouraged to contribute to the marketing and communications strategies of the festival.

Location: Remote (from home), House of PainT office, on-site (Brewer Park).

Time Commitment: 5-20 hours per week in the months leading up to the festival – to be determined based on volunteer’s availability.

Skills: Creativity, excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (French is an asset), organization skills, editing skills, attention to detail, experience with Microsoft Office, interpersonal abilities, ability to listen and follow direction, flexibility, adaptability, multicultural sensitivity/awareness, responsibility/reliability, friendly.

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Monitoring and Evaluation Officers collect, review and assess feedback from festival patrons to help improve the festival for the future. Responsibilities may include drafting surveys, reviewing and assessing information provided by volunteers and festival patrons, data entry, creation of info-graphics, and contributing to our final reports.

Location: On-site (Brewer Park); remote (from home); occasionally at the House of PainT office.

Time Commitment: Minimum of either: a) 5-10 hours before the festival,  b) one six (6) hour shift during the festival,  c) 5-10 hours after the festival, d) a combination of the three, based on your availability.

Skills: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (French is an asset), strong analytical skills, ability to work as a team and independently, experience with Microsoft Office, proficiency with tablet technology, accuracy, attention to detail. data visualization or info-graphic experience is an asset.
