TOP ROCK MASTERCLASS with YNOT (Rocksteady Crew)
Saturday, August 27, 2016 1:00PM-2:15PM

B-boy YNOT is a student of hip hop and slave to rhythm. Starting off as a multi-instrumentalist jazz artist and performing big band style (playing the clarinet, tenor saxophone, and percussion) YNOT loves funk and soul music. His interest in James Brown was a key factor in his appreciation of hip hop – after listening, he soon realized that many hip hop songs use samples from his favourite music. Thus began his love affair with hip hop dance, which he shares with us in his Top Rock Masterclass.

BREAKING MASTERCLASS 2 with Crazy Legs of Rock Steady Crew
SUNDAY, AUG. 28, 2016, 2:30 – 4PM

About Crazy Legs: Legendary b-boy and Rock Steady Crew President Crazy Legs (Richard Colón) has had a long and inspiring career in Hip Hop; one that is fueled by organizing within the community. But what might set him apart is the ability to use Hip Hop as a tool to help build and elevate communities outside the confines of Hip Hop as well. If you follow him on social media, you’ll realize how hard he works to keep up between traveling abroad for dancing events worldwide, speaking engagements, and hosting Rock Steady Anniversaries each year. Living between New York and Puerto Rico, the Bronx native is very busy, but not too busy to make time for causes close to his heart.

Q&A with Rock Steady Crew DJ JS-1, Crazy Legs of Rock Steady Crew, Sweepy, YNOT
SUNDAY, AUG. 28, 2016, 4 – 5PM

The Rock Steady Crew will be soon celebrating 40 years! Emerging out of the b-boy rivalries in New York; RSC was established in 1977 by Bronx b-boys Jimmy D and Jimmy Lee. When the b-boy hype began to die down in 1979, Crazy Legs and Lenny Len brought new life to the artform and took the crew and b-boying to the next level, starting a chapter in Manhattan. Later joined more b-boys such as Ken Swift, Fable and Mr. Wiggles. With a variety of performances, judge titles and even contributions to a theatrical production, The New York Times called the Rock Steady Crew “the foremost breakdancing group in the world today.”
